REDMAGIC 6S Pro Review: MOBILE GAMING AT ITS BEST
REDMAGIC 6S Pro is the latest and greatest smartphone to come out of Nubia. It’s a phone that builds upon the excellent foundation of the REDMAGIC 6 Pro and improves upon it in almost every way. While it brings only a slight cosmetic change when compared to the REDMAGIC 6 Pro, it still has that undeniable gamer aesthetic that looks great even if you aren’t into gaming at all.
Like in the previous model, the screen is the star of the show. The REDMAGIC 6S Pro has a sizeable, flat 6.8″ AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a pixel density of 387 PPI. Not only that, but the screen here has a 165Hz refresh rate still making it one of the best and fastest mobile displays on the market. Its max brightness has also been bumped up when compared to the previous Red Magic flagship, making the screen an absolute complete package for either the casual user as well as the gamer.
The REDMAGIC 6S Pro is equally beastly under the hood with the Snapdragon 888+, (Kryo 680 CPU, and Adreno 660 GPU) 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a very fast UFS 3.1. type storage. It’s an absolute powerhouse that will handle anything you throw at it with ease and it almost begs to take some of the most graphically intense games for a spin. Benchmarking tools consistently place it near or at the very top in all performance tests alongside other recently released flagship phones.
One area where Nubia is miles ahead of the competition is cooling. REDMAGIC 6S Pro features new phase change materials along with a high-speed centrifugal fan that stores and disperses heat with extreme efficiency. The end result is that the phone never reaches extremely high temperatures to the point you won’t be able to hold it and there are no lag or performance drops even after hours of gameplay. One downside of this cooling setup and the exhaust vents is that the phone doesn’t have an IP rating so watch out when you handle it near any bodies of water.
The triggers remain one hardware feature that ultimately makes controlling the games a true joy. Using them for first-person shooters feels the most natural and intuitive but they can also be used effectively for other types of games, freeing up some screen real estate and making the games easier to control. Pairing the triggers with games that support over 120 Hz refresh rate is a match made in heaven and it gives you so much control and speed that it essentially feels like cheating in certain games.
