There are few events that bring people together quite like the FIFA World Cup. Every four years cities around the world come alive as fans gather to show their love of the game. Restaurants, fan parks, and public spaces are filled with friends and families. Strangers turn into teammates for 90 minutes. The conversations start long before kick-off and end well beyond the final whistle.
Our first assignment takes us to Johannesburg, South Africa, to witness one of football’s biggest occasions through the eyes of the REDMAGIC 11 Pro. We wanted to capture all of the things that made match day special, including the people, the atmosphere, the food, the city, and the moments in between.
Before Kick-Off
It is the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the city of Johannesburg is filled with excitement. The sun is setting on the city skyline on a winter’s evening, and fans in jerseys from all over the world are making their way to the Melrose Arch fan park.
The atmosphere is created long before the game kicks off. Friends hug each other in greeting, families try to find the best seats, and strangers quickly bond in predicting what the evening will bring. Team colors spill into the streets, and flags wave above the rising crowd.
Supporters share meals before kick-off, packed into restaurants nearby. Burgers, pizzas, wings, and local favorites land on tables, and conversations move from football rivalries to favorite players and score predictions. Small groups pass footballs back and forth while music plays from nearby speakers. Every corner offers a new photo opportunity, with the colorful fan outfits, painted faces, and golden light bouncing off the Johannesburg skyline. It’s a wonderful reminder that the World Cup experience starts well before the first whistle.
Match Day Atmosphere
As the opening ceremony comes to an end, the excitement around the fan park becomes impossible to ignore. Conversations quiet down as kick-off approaches, with everyone's attention fixed on the big screen. Tables are packed, and drinks are flowing. Young and old are gathered on a cold winter’s night, but there is enough warmth radiating from the crowd to keep everyone going for the next two hours.
Some of the best moments happen away from the screen. A child proudly wearing their favorite player's jersey, friends taking photos to remember the night, families sharing meals, and groups discussing every referee decision all become part of the experience. These moments are what make the World Cup experience so memorable.
After the Final Whistle
The excitement slowly begins to settle as the final whistle blows. Some fans head home, others stick around to talk about the game over dessert or another drink. Groups gather around the fan park for photos before calling it a night. The winning fans celebrate together; the losing side proudly keeps its jerseys on and talks through the moments that might have changed the game, and very quickly the conversation shifts from the score to the experience.
The mood shifts as people begin to leave. It gets less crowded, restaurants close, and the bright lights of Melrose Arch stand out against the dark winter night. It’s a different side to match day. More than the outcome, it's being with your friends, meeting other supporters, and being a part of an event that brought thousands of people together. People often remember those times long after the lights have gone out in the stadium.

Each FIFA World Cup creates memories that linger long after the tournament is over. Even though football unites everyone, it’s the conversations, the celebrations, and the time spent with friends and family that people often remember the most.
Match day in Johannesburg showed how different each World Cup experience can be. The city was alive with people enjoying the occasion in their own way from the buzz before kick-off to the atmosphere after the final whistle.
